Streams Of Life-Homeless Hearts: Appeal for Open Homes to Shelter Our Malaysian Neighbours

In response to Malaysia’s lockdown on 18 March to stem the tide of COVID-19, 300,000 Malaysian workers who commute daily between Johor Bahru and Singapore had to brave the congested causeway and make the decision to stay in Singapore, regardless of whether accommodation was in place. The Singapore government has made it a priority to ensure sufficient short-term accommodation for these workers who are serving the city and eking out a livelihood for their families. Nonetheless, some workers have been displaced and have to make do with being homeless for the time being.

As Christians called to proclaim an incarnational gospel, Streams of Life has teamed up with Homeless Hearts to urgently appeal for Singaporeans to show welcome and hospitality to our Malaysian friends. In a time where fear of scarcity and illness plagues society, may we show charitable and warm love, in deed and in truth (1 John 3:17-18). May our Lord open the eyes of our hearts and courageously open the doors of our homes to our neighbours who find themselves suddenly displaced in the Antioch of Asia.

Please spread the word to your churches and fellowship groups for many helping hands to come on board. You may share this link

Isaiah 58:6-8

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.”
